Youth Mentorship Program
Our Youth Mentorship Program connects young people with vetted community leaders to provide positive role models, skill-building, and supervised community engagement. The program focuses on structured, supportive relationships designed to foster personal growth, healthy habits, and increased community involvement.
Who can be referred? Admission is by referral only. We do not accept open applications. Youth must be referred by one of the following:
A medical office (pediatrician, mental health provider, school-based health clinic)
A school guidance office (school counselor, social worker, or principal)
Referral criteria and process
Referrals should include basic intake information and the referring professional’s reason for recommending mentorship (social support, skill development, increased physical activity, community engagement, etc.).
Our intake team reviews referrals to determine fit and prioritization based on needs and available resources.
Families are contacted by program staff after a referral is accepted to explain program expectations, schedule an intake meeting, and obtain consent.
Mentor matching and qualifications
Mentors are local community leaders such as college athletes, college students, and other young adults with leadership experience.
All mentors undergo screening, training, and background checks before working with participants.
Matches are made based on shared interests, goals, availability, and logistical considerations (location and transportation).
Program activities
Regular one-on-one meetings between mentor and participant, scheduled according to family availability.
Community outings and activities, including sports, recreational events, cultural or civic activities, and supervised social outings.
Skills development focused on goal-setting, teamwork, communication, time management, healthy lifestyle habits, and other individualized objectives.
Opportunities for group activities or community service with other program participants when appropriate.
Supervision and safety
Mentors are trained in youth safety, boundaries, and reporting procedures.
Program staff provide ongoing supervision, periodic check-ins, and support for both mentors and families.
Safety protocols are followed for all outings and activities; parental/guardian consent is required for participation.
Duration and expectations
Program length is flexible and based on participant needs and progress; typical engagements are several months with periodic review.
Families and participants should expect consistent, scheduled contact with the mentor and active communication with program staff.
Clear expectations are set at intake regarding attendance, behavior, and goals.
